OUR WORK

Contribution to the Literature
DEMONSTRATED COMMITMENT TO SHARING KNOWLEDGE

As lifelong learners, we not only seek out new knowledge, but also understand our responsibility to share our experiences and learnings with others who are working to make the world a healthier, better place. We've presented at events like the Tennessee Emerging Infections Program 25th Annual Scientific Day, 2024 American Public Health Association Annual Meeting, 2023 Office of Population Affairs (OPA) Title X Grantee Conference,  2021 LOINC Annual Conference, January 2020 OpenNotes Grand Rounds, 2019 Cerner Physician Conference, 2019 ONC Interoperability Forum, 2018 Scottsdale Institute and more. We've also co-authored papers published in esteemed periodicals, like the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association and the Columbia Journal of Gender and Law.

For an example of our work, view our presentation at the January 2024 HL7 Connectathon and WGM.

Program Development and Management Consultants
CLINICAL BUILDER PROGRAM  |  ACADEMIC MEDICAL CENTER

As the program development and management consultant for a clinical builder program at an academic medical center, Double Lantern spun up the program’s governance, including a charter, standard operating procedure and a steering committee, and helped recruit more than 50 program participants. Elizabeth supported a multi-specialty pilot cohort of clinicians alongside information technology analysts, from training enrollment to project completion, thereby enhancing the electronic health record platform functionality, allowing IT resources to focus on top-of-skill improvements and improving clinicians’ joy of practice.

Instructors of Masters-Level Courses in Applied Health Informatics
EMORY UNIVERSITY ROLLINS SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH

Elizabeth and Adele both teach masters-level courses in Applied Public Health Informatics at Emory University Rollins School of Public Health’s Executive Masters of Public Health program, and are thus familiar with introducing informatics concepts to professionals from health care, public health and industry. They also created and taught a professional development course through the Emory University Rollins Health Education Institute (RHEDI) for Introduction to Applied Public Health Informatics.

Health Care Technology Communicators
AUDIENCE-APPROPRIATE AND STRATEGIC MESSAGING

Double Lantern’s combination of deep communications experience and technical acumen makes it well-suited to serve in roles where technology communications are key. For example, Double Lantern has been supporting a major academic medical center for several years with technology communications, such as:

  • Internal and external communications when the health system changed vendors for its electronic health record (for the new vendor’s largest, single-day go-live on record).

  • Internal communications to support providers and clinical staff when the health system moved to immediate release of lab results and open notes (i.e., providing patients with access to their clinical notes as soon as they are signed) in support of its compliance with the 21st Century Cures Act Final Rule.

  • External communications to patients about how to access their electronic health information and the technology tools available to them, including writing and editing blogs, stories and short training videos (captioned in multiple languages to reach non-English speaking patients).

Co-Developer and Co-Host of Emory University Rollins School of Public Health
Innovation Summit
EXECUTED DESIGN THINKING-INFORMED PUBLIC HEALTH INNOVATION WORKSHOP

Double Lantern was the co-developer and co-host of the Emory University Rollins School of Public Health Innovation Summit, for which the team worked to execute a design thinking-informed public health innovation workshop – including leading the development of communications; run-of-show; recruitment of diverse speakers across public health domains of expertise; securing attendance of industry, public health and nonprofit representatives; and managing in-person/virtual logistics for the 2-week hybrid event.

Analysts of Interoperability Regulations and Related Spaces
IDENTIFYING OPPORTUNITIES FOR DIALOGUE WITH REGULATORS

Double Lantern supports public health and health care clients with the review, impact analysis and commenting on rules, regulations and other artifacts related to the advancement of data standards and interoperability in health care.

Committed Interoperability Community Participants
MEMBERS OF HL7, WEDI, AMIA, APHA AND MORE

Double Lantern Informatics is an HL7 Gold Member, and participates in the Helios FHIR® Accelerator for Public Health (all use cases) and the HL7 Public Health Work Group.

Our team also actively engages as members or contributors to groups like the Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange (WEDI), Shift Task Force, American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA), American Public Health Association (APHA), International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee 338 and more.

FHIR Advisors Since 2017
ADVANCING MODERN HEALTH TECHNOLOGY SOLUTIONS

Double Lantern supported a large academic medical center as it established a Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) advisory committee, and facilitated the health system’s strategy, governance and operations relating to the FHIR data standard. As the program development and project management consultants, Elizabeth and Adele helped assemble an interdisciplinary committee with more than 30 members, driving agendas, meeting facilitation and ad-hoc task force designation for the review of applications (for development or licensing) and regulations.
